SINOPSIS

HACER MUCHO CON POCO muestra la práctica de arquitectos jóvenes que generaron un cambio de paradigma en la forma de entender el oficio para enfrentarse a la sociedad. Distintos proyectos que muestran cómo el valor de la gestión y el uso de materiales locales permiten reformular la academia a través del hacer, el trabajo colectivo y la transferencia de saberes.

LOS ORÍGENES

Poner el foco en Latinoamérica y retratar nuevas perspectivas sobre los contextos sociales de la arquitectura se ha convertido, a nivel internacional, en una prioridad para la investigación de la disciplina y el rol del arquitecto. El reconocimiento del arquitecto chileno Alejandro Aravena como director de la Bienal de Venecia de Arquitectura es una muestra de ello y un indicio de hacia dónde debería ir la arquitectura en los próximos años. Al Borde fue invitada a ser parte de la exhibición principal del pasado certamen. Nunca antes una oficina de arquitectura del Ecuador había sido invitada a exhibir su trabajo en la Bienal más importante del mundo.

A STORY OF HOW TO DO ARCHITECTURE TO REACH THE ENTIRE SOCIETY

SYNOPSIS

DO MORE WITH LESS shows how young architects are bringing about a change in paradigm by offering a new understanding of the way this profession interacts with society. The construction of real projects with students allows them the transformation of the academy in order to achieve continuity in the next years.

Different projects explained trough final users, students and architects through their approach on management and local materials aiming an alternative economic model.

THE ORIGINS

In recent years, the Latin American context and the portrayal of new perspectives in the social context of architecture has attracted international attention; they have become priorities in the investigation of the discipline and the understanding of the architect’s role. The appointment of the Chilean architect Alejandro Aravena as director of the Venice Biennale is a reflection of this and an indication as to where architecture will be heading in the coming years. Al Borde studio was invited to participate in the main exhibition in the 15th Edition of the Biennale. Never before had an Ecuadorian studio been invited to showcase its work in the most important architecture exhibition in the world.

Thanks to Al Borde we discovered a series of projects and studios, all of them part of a unique “architectural movement” which seeks to address real issues, to be part of society and to change the established role of the architect, thus opening windows to a global export of a different kind of architecture. In view of this, we feel the need to document the action, the theory and the practice of how to Do More With Less.
